One more time, how do I go about applying?

First, go back by reading the Recruiting Policies page.  That covers all of this in detail and explains nicely the multi-tiered application process.  However, if you really want things in the short FAQ form, here are the basics again:

Can I apply by e-mail?

Yes.  We accept resumes/CVs by e-mail. Please be sure that you send it as an attached Word or AppleWorks document, and include a recent photo (as a JPEG). Send them to: personnel@fourseasonsjapan.com

Why do you need a photo?

A photo tells us a lot about you.  Do you look like a happy guy?   Do you look like a warm friendly woman?  Do you have a purple-green mohawk haircut and thirty-two nose rings and are therefore likely to terrify the students?   You have pictures of us on the web. It's only fair!

Can I apply while I'm still a student?

Yes, but we can't hold jobs for you.  Depending on your date of graduation, the timing may work out, but no promises.  Still, go ahead and mail and let's see what might work.

Do you want a cover letter?

It is usually the best way to get a real sense of you as a person, rather than you as a piece of paper, a good cover letter which certainly make us sit up and take notice....

Should I send anything else with my resume and picture?

No, nothing's required.  A good cover letter usually impresses of course, but you don't have to send your transcripts or reference letters or pictures of your cat (yes, we get those), or anything else. You can, if you want, but its not necessary. If you think it reveals something special about you, its fine, you're not going to be rejected for the cat photo or a great reference letter, but its not required, and it may or may not help. Don't worry, if we need more, we'll ask in the next stage. The resume is just stage one.

Can I e-mail you to let you know that I'm sending a resume by airmail? I'm worried that the job will be filled while the post office does its job.

Yes, that's fine, we appreciate your enthusiasm, and don't mind knowing that someone has read the site and is following directions.  However depending on our stress level, we may not acknowledge your e-mail immediately.  We'll try!

Can I e-mail you with a question not answered on the site?

Yes, of course!  Actually, I think that one is answered elsewhere....  However, we do sometimes get questions that aren't answered here, and if appropriate, we will edit our pages to answer them for others in the future. We don't mind a personal message regarding some particular point of concern.

What we're trying to avoid are the mass mailings, the folks who just want to compare salary figures, the people too lazy to actual read the site. We're trying to avoid the daily, "please tell me more about the job opportunities you have" messages, because we get those a lot. A lot of job seekers seem to just skim the site, look for an e-mail address, and pop in a standardized "Dear Sir/Madam," message or resume. If you have a specific question, yes, send it. If you are mass mailing me, don't bother. Or be prepared to be sent here.
